Lisa Lea-Weston appeared on The Still Human podcast with Julie Liddell to discuss the growing importance of supervision in education.

This will be a great listen if you are curious about supervision in education. Lisa and Julie talked about the benefits of supervision to everyone in schools, not just staff but importantly the children and young people too. Lisa explained how Talking Heads works with senior leaders so that the culture of supervision starts and can be maintained by senior leaders, who have experienced and therefore have felt the benefits themselves.

Lisa explains how supervision differs from coaching and mentoring. She explains how others doing emotional labour, such as social workers and colleagues in mental health, not only expect to have supervision but are required by their professional registrations to do so. It is a method to safeguard professionals and those who use their services. It is a right. It is essential and it is not about weakness or performance concerns.

In talking about how Talking Heads operates Lisa describes the process of supervision. Finding the right metaphor for school leaders to use to allow them a different perspective on their roles and responsibilities frees up creativity and fresh solutions.  This podcast fits so well with its title. Supervision allows school leaders to still feel human, Lisa's account of how and why that works is compelling. Strongly recommend as you finish the school year.

Take a listen and discover why supervision is becoming such an important part of creating safer, healthier and more sustainable educational environments.
